2013 Acura ZDX Versus BMW X6

The Acura ZDX and BMW X6 are niche SUVs whose owners seek exclusivity and luxury.

Interior Features Compared

Both cars are well appointed with high-quality leather interiors. The BMW’s fascia is somber and dark colored, while the Acura’s is simple, uncluttered with light colors and a design that cocoons driver and passenger.

Passenger space is good, with the Acura having slightly better front passenger accommodation. It is fitted with five seats to the BMW’s four. The luggage space is adequate and the rear seats can be folded down to increase capacity. However, the BMW is not as practical as its seats do not fold completely flat.

Both cars have 10-way adjustable seats, adjustable steering wheel, dipping mirrors, climate control, and excellent audio systems. Other features standard to the Acura, but optional for the BMW are a navigation system, keyless entry, ventilated front seats, and automatic headlights.

One really nice Acura feature is the option to personalize settings for the driver’s seat, steering wheel, mirrors, and audio system. Another is the dual-zone, GPS-linked, solar sensing climate control that keeps all occupants comfortable.

Exterior Features Compared

Both cars have a similar side profile, with short wheel base, sloping roof, high stance, and coupe-like design. Their respective design philosophies are reflected in the front-end designs, BMW’s kidney grill and Acura’s bold logo. The Acura’s smooth lines are easier on the eye than the BMW’s bulbous shape, and its glass panoramic roof creates an impression of light and space.

Safety Features Compared

These are very safe cars, fitted with front and rear air bags and dynamic safety aids including four-wheel-drive, brake assist, traction control, and active stability control. This feature controls torque to the front and rear axles as well as torque to each rear wheel, dramatically improving handling and reducing oversteer.

Other safety related features include lane departure warning, forward collision avoidance warning, reversing camera, and automatic lights. These are standard on the Acura and optional extras on the BMW.

The BMW is fitted as standard with run-flat tires, which is fine for cities but not so reassuring if the car is taken off pavement or to the more remote parts of the country. The Acura is better as it is is fitted with a spare wheel.
