If you’re in the market for a luxury SUV, there are a number of expectations to be met. The vehicle needs to have plenty of power, a spacious interior, a stylish exterior, and advanced functionality. If these elements are not to your satisfaction, there’s really no point in owning one.
The 2014 Acura RDX is the perfect example of an SUV that will meet high expectations. In many respects, it blows its competition out of the water. To illustrate this point, let’s take a look to see how it compares with another luxury SUV, the 2013 Lexus RX 350.
When it comes to comparing the exterior of two vehicles, personal taste is always a factor. Maybe the grille looks better on one vehicle that it does on another. Perhaps it has a sleeker look than its competition. The first thing most people will notice about the 2014 Acura RDX is exactly that — how much sleeker it appears over its competition, including the Lexus RX 350. Every part of the RDX’s exterior exudes luxury, which many other luxury SUVs can’t say.
Regardless of how attractive the outside is, the interior is more important. The 2014 Acura RDX not only feels good thanks to its leather upholstery, comfortable seats, and heated front seats, the dual-cockpit dash and color schemes throughout make it look good, too. In comparison, the 2013 Lexus RX 350 has been decent in this category, but hasn’t exactly wowed the critics.
A luxury vehicle should perform where it counts and the 2014 Acura RDX does not disappoint. Its 3.5L V6 engine provides plenty of power whenever you need it, plus a fuel efficiency rating of 20 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. The 2013 Lexus RX 350 has the same engine, but doesn’t seem to have the same kick as the RDX. And its fuel efficiency is a little lower at 18/25.
These days, all vehicles, and especially luxury ones, are expected to have the latest and greatest technology. There are far too many technological features to list here, but trust us — the 2014 Acura RDX has plenty. There’s smart key entry, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity, push-button ignition, and a 9-speaker audio system, plus many more. The 2013 Lexus RX 350 includes a number of these as well, but don’t appear to be integrated as well.
