The holiday season is upon us, and many people from the Philadelphia, Lansdale, and Doylestown areas are scoping out the best places to vacation either on their own or with their families. While many may lean toward going down south to escape the winter chill, there are plenty of great attractions and vacation destinations right here in Pennsylvania you should consider when making your travel plans.
Here are a few for your consideration:
In Lancaster County, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the hospitality of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. You can do some shopping in Kitchen Kettle Village in Intercourse or take a horse and buggy ride around the area roads. You can tour the Smoketown Airport, Miesse Candies and Factory in Lancaster, Herr’s Snack Factory in Nottingham, and the Turkey Hill Experience in Columbia. You can take in a show at the Fulton Theater, Sight and Sound Theater, or American Music Theater. Or you can walk the streets of Lancaster City to check out the unique shops and restaurants, including Lancaster Central Market. There also are plenty of bed and breakfasts where you can book a room for your stay.
Elk Mountain Ski Resort
This ski resort, which is about 2 ½ hours from Philadelphia, is located in Union Dale, PA, in the northeastern corner of the state. At Elk Mountain, you’ll be able to enjoy both skiing and snowboarding on the slopes and the breathtaking views from the mountains. Plus you can enjoy fantastic meals at local restaurants such as the Beacon Bar & Grill and the Candlelight Inn at Lowe Lake.
If you love chocolate, you certainly won’t be disappointed if you take a trip to Hersheypark, especially since Hershey, PA, is the headquarters of one of the most famous chocolate brands. Hersheypark features rides and roller coasters perfect for both children and thrill seekers. There are also great holiday events such as Christmas in Hershey, which runs through December 27, and Breakfast with Santa, which runs through December 21. Plus, just outside the gates of the theme park is Hershey’s Chocolate World so you can see how the sweet treats are made and buy a few to bring home.
Voted America’s Coolest Small Town in 2013, Lititz is a great place to take the family on a nice day trip. In this small town, you’ll have the chance to enjoy the foods of local businesses. There’s also the Appalachian Brewing Company for those who have hankering for handcrafted ales and lagers. There’s also plenty of local shops perfect to find everything you need to complete your holiday shopping list.
As the holidays quickly approach and your event planner continues to fill up, be sure to consider these great places for your next vacation destination for you family or just you. They’re all great areas for those who want to escape from Philadelphia, Doylestown, and Lansdale and perfect for those who just want to make great memories that will last a lifetime.
