This upcoming Memorial Day weekend is looking to be the most exciting one in years. The city is teeming with events that you don’t want to miss. Here are a few you should definitely check out.
National Constitution Center
On Monday, May 25, admission will be free at the National Constitution Center, and they will have a flag-raising ceremony at noon where they will raise the flag from half-mast to full in accordance with tradition. They will also hold a flag etiquette workshop and 18th-century games for the whole family to enjoy. Before you leave, write a postcard thanking our men and women in the armed forces for all they do.
PHAIR at the Oval
Start the holiday weekend off right with some shopping! PHAIR is an open-air market that will set up shop at The Oval, a seasonal pop-up public space that turns the asphalt and surrounding lawns between 24th Street and the Parkways into an urban park for family-oriented fun. There will be dozens of vendors selling handcrafted items, artisanal foods, jewelry, clothing, and more. There will also be several breweries serving up some of the best locally crafted beers in the city.
Jam on the River
After a six-year absence, Jam on the River is returning to Penn’s Landing with a great lineup of popular bands, including Lotus, Griz, and Electron, who will perform on River Stage. Along with the excellent music, there will be food trucks and local breweries on hand to feed the crowds and satisfy your thirst for artisanal beer.
Start the weekend off right with the popular free yoga classes on Race Street Pier. The sessions start at 9:30 am on Saturday and Sunday and at 7 am on Memorial Day. Each class lasts for an hour, but make sure to bring your own yoga mat.
Picnic at the Pier
Friday night, May 22, there will be a picnic on Race Street Pier from 6 to 10 pm. There will be live music and free food and drinks with plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained.
Fireworks at Longwood Gardens
Starting at 9:15 pm, there will be an incredible display of fireworks at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square. Along with the pyrotechnics, there will be big band music and Broadway hits playing in the background. You can get tickets to the event online, which also includes all-day access to the gardens. Enjoy a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend in Philadelphia!
