Your Ultimate Guide to Tailgating a Phillies Game

tailgateBaseball season is in full swing, and what better way to celebrate the warm summer months ahead than to head to the ballpark? Grab some friends and discuss a day when you’re all available to head to the park, then order your tickets. Seeing the Phillies play at night is always a crowd favorite and a Sunday afternoon game is a summer staple.

Citizens Bank Park is conveniently located near Philadelphia, Lansdale and Doylestown, but before you head out, ask yourself, “Do I have my Phillies gear?” Wear the jersey of your favorite player and, if it’s sunny, you’ll want to make sure you have your ball cap. Next, double check that you’ve packed the drinks, grill, cooler, hot dogs and burgers. These are all things you should be asking yourself before you and your friends head to a Phillies game. Aside from the essentials, there are a number of other things to make sure you have and do for the ultimate tailgating experience.

• Grab your supplies ahead of time: Making sure you have all of your supplies ahead of time will ensure that you head out the door and on the road to the game hassle-free. Stop by your local grocery store the night before to grab ice, burgers, hot dogs, buns, rolls and condiments to eat in the Citizens Bank Park parking lots before the game. Don’t forget the water bottles to help you stay hydrated.

• Grilling and food safety: Grilling responsibly is a must. Remember to keep a fire extinguisher on hand and maintain proper heating and fire levels at all times. It is important to cook the burgers to the appropriate temperature to avoid undercooked meat. Food safety is just as important as grilling safety, and getting sick well into the third inning is no one’s idea of a good time.

• Fuel and then fun: Throwing back a couple of cold ones will guarantee a good time well into the seventh inning stretch. Remember to drink responsibly and be mindful of other spectators in the lot. A variety of drinking games can be played since there’s ample space, as long as you respect the other parked cars and fans. Dizzy bat and beer pong are always crowd pleasers, but don’t get too out of hand. Try drinking a cup of water for every cup of alcohol you drink.

• Show your pride: No matter what type of season the Phillies are having, we love them anyway. Tailgating before a game is a time to show your Phillies pride with flags, streamers, ribbons and car and face paint. Going all out with decorations is always a fun way to spend time with your friends before the game and shows great support for the Phillies team. The ballpark is easily accessible from Philadelphia, Lansdale and Doylestown.

Tailgating is permitted in parking lots: A-H, J, K, L, M and N. For more information on parking and other amenities, visit the Phillies website. Tickets are available at the box offices on the First Base and Third Base side but are also easily obtained online.

Stay safe, have fun, and tailgate to show your pride this Phillies season! Maybe we’ll see you at the next game!
